Old Friends
Isn’t it great to have old friends to help keep fond memories alive! Below is a copy of an email I received from Burke, an old boy who I used to go out with on double dates and with whom I played in the high school band. “I was watching the public channel television station a week or so ago and watched the current Glenn Miller orchestra, it was quite refreshing to hear the good old music that we grew up with, like Pennsylvania 5000, String Of Pearls, In The Mood, Little Brown Jug etc. I thought I would do the same thing last Sunday and there was a group of kids on that looked to be about fourteen years old playing their trombones. They were pretty good. Next on the program was Lawrence Welk. I can tolerate Lawrence Welk, but he is a long ways from the Glenn Miller music. On one of the class reunion trips in the past I visited our old band hall, leaving me with a strange feeling. Then there was the Burma Shave signs....... She kissed the hairbrush By mistake She thought it was Her husband Jake Use Burma Shave Just ramblingBurke” Burke wasn’t able to attend this last high school reunion due to his health. He resides in Fort Worth, Texas, about 50 miles from our home town, Mineral Wells. I always enjoy his emails, his recall of days of yore are better than mine. Burke also does something I don’t do today, that is; he reads the obituary column and keeps me up to date on friends that have passed on. Funny how people like us in our eighties tend to keep on dropping out of the picture. Me, I plan to be young-4-ever.
