Un - Retiring? Need Work?

This may sound like an oxymoron, but the fact is that many over55ers on retirement are un-retiring because they need additional income to make ends meet.

Many of us older citizens are forced by dwindling financial resources in this recessionary economy to return to the job market.

Whether it is true or not, we are perceived to be creatures of habit, who could find it difficult to be trained and managed by those much younger that ourselves.

Generally speaking, our modern computer skills are not at good as those much younger than ourselves. Of course we do have experience in the work force that cannot be matched by those young "whipper-snappers".

Just getting a job so we can go back to work part time can be quite a let down. We find in many cases that people doing the hiring are much younger than we are; some look at us as being ancient! Well, we may look ancient to those youngsters, but we are living longer and some of us are healthy enough to work - and way too many of us need more income to meet basic living costs.

On top of everything else that could affect our getting part time work is the huge number of younger workers that have been discharged, or on lay off status who are also looking for work. This is a pool of workers who are fresh out of work, but with lots of today's work experience.

The Internet has stepped up with labor market sites that are specifically aimed at our generation. I reviewed several sites by googling "part time work for seniors". There are some of us who will be successful in creating additional income through part time work. Unfortunately, there are many of us who will have great difficulty in finding a job.
